How do I get around Rome between tours?+
Walking and the metro cover almost everything in the centro storico. A 24-hour transit pass is about €7 — taxis are fine for one-offs but priced unpredictably.
What's the best month to visit Rome?+
April–May and September–October are the sweet spot: warm, but before the Colosseum queue triples. August is hot and half the trattorias are closed.
Is the Vatican in Rome?+
Technically it's its own state, but it's a 20-minute walk from the Pantheon. For tour purposes we treat it as part of Rome.
Should I tip my Rome guide?+
Appreciated, never expected. €10–20 per group at the end of a tour is generous; not tipping is completely fine.
