Through the Museums
Centuries of papal collecting await. Start in the Pinecone Courtyard, the grand open-air space named for its colossal bronze pinecone, then discover the Pio-Clementino Museum, one of the earliest and most significant sections of the Vatican Museums, where celebrated classical works like the Belvedere Torso and Apollo Belvedere hold court. Continue through the three great corridors, the Gallery of Maps, the Gallery of Tapestries, and the Gallery of Candelabra, that lead you, room by extraordinary room, toward the chapel.
The Sistine Chapel
Built between 1477 and 1480 under Pope Sixtus IV and first frescoed by leading Renaissance painters, the chapel became what it is when Michelangelo intervened, the ceiling in the early 1500s, and later the Last Judgment.

Good to know before you go
- Meet at the Inside Out Italy office, Via Sebastiano Veniero 74, 15 minutes before your start time.
- Allow about 3 hours for your visit.
- Shorts aren't allowed inside the museums, and neither are big bags or bottles of liquid.
- The visit isn't suitable for wheelchair users. If you have other mobility needs, tell us in advance and we'll do our best to help.
- The Sistine Chapel can close at short notice for official events or religious ceremonies. That's outside our control, but your ticket still gives you access to the Vatican Museums.
- Visitors with a certified disability of at least 67% enter free, with a companion if they aren't self-sufficient. These tickets can't be booked online, so contact us first and we'll arrange your visit.
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your start time.

- Important Information Please be aware that access to the Sistine Chapel is subject to Vatican regulations and ceremonies. The Vatican Museums may decide to close the Sistine Chapel on short notice for official events or religious proceedings. In the event of any unexpected developments , we are unable to foresee or control these closures in advance. However, your ticket will still grant you access to the Vatican Museums.
